The Journey Continues...

Wrapping up Week 1 of our 7th MFFL Season

Weekly Wrap-Up: Image

September 16th, 2021

Ah, Week 1 of fantasy, the moment we find out each year if our draft was any good. It’s in Week 1 that we get to see if our sleepers are going to be relevant, if our stalwart players are going to be as consistent as we had hoped, or if our season is gonna be one that we want to forget. Full tilts are made by the losers, winners get overconfident, and trade offers are thrown around galore. Honestly, Week 1 this year seemed pretty nuts to me with some shocking games. The Packers got smacked by Sir Crab Legs himself, Tannehill decided to play like he was still in Miami, and the absolutely terrible Texans smacked down on the new hotness of the league Trevor Lawrence. Gotta love how unpredictable the NFL can be sometimes and how bad Brody and Dominic’s teams are.

To review some of the craziness here’s our Matchup Highlights and Weekly Awards:

Matchup Highlights:

  • DTDB Irish Assassins (1-0) defeats Top 2 Not 2 (0-1) by the narrowest margin the league

It’s fitting that this matchup came down to the wire like it did. Two of the league's previous winners, GM Ian and reigning Champion GM Connor faced off in a showdown that ended with GM Connor not quite making the strongest case for a potential back-to-back league win. GM Ian got a pretty miserable start with RoJo dampening his Thursday evening with a fumble that not only caused Bruce Arians to bench him, but also turned his face somehow even redder than it already is (the guy either needs sunscreen or needs to lay off the bacon). The Irish Assassins on the other hand jumped to a quick start early on Sunday with an explosive performance from Russell Wilson and his tag team running back corps of Miles Sanders and JT bringing solid points to the scoreboard. The Not 2 responded with a dynamic performance from speedster Tyreek Hill. All seemed lost when the week came to a close with somewhat disappointing results from the likes of Mike Davis, Kittle, and Herbert left GM Ian, but defense came in clutch. Not only did Top 2 Not 2’s 49er’s defense play well, but his defensive scheme flipped the script on the week, ultimately handing GM Connor the L. Choose those schemes wisley folks.

  • JK’s Juke Jammers (1-0) overwhelmed With the Windows (0-1) scoring 52 points more than the team inspired by Indian scammers

Things went well for GM Darren from the get go this week with the stack of Tom Brady and a very vintage looking AB combining for a whopping 55 points. GM August’s team didn’t quite know how to recover from this early blow with two of the team’s top players in Tannehill and Ridley not quite playing like themselves. Despite WTW’s star RB Dalvin Cook and surprise breakout WR Brandin Cooks getting in the kitchen and doing their best to cook up a recipe for success, they couldn’t quite close the deal. Solid delivery from the rest of the The Juke Jammer’s squad with Hooked on A Thielen and Hockules scoring at least 20 points each made a comeback victory nearly impossible to achieve. Riding on the back of the target king Darren Waller and moving on from the blowout loss, GM August will look to right the ship in his next matchup against GM Grafton. Hopefully he will treat him nicely.

  • Two Girls One Kupp (1-0) pulls somewhat of an upset with a stunning victory over former champion Belichick Yo Self  (0-1) led by team namesake

Raise your hand if you clowned GM Matt for picking Cooper Kupp in the 3rd round, a spot that seemed to be a bit of a reach? If you’re reading this, you should be raising your hand. GM Matt has to be happy with himself and his star player from this week and he finished off the back-and-forth battle with GM David in a convincing fashion. The matchup with the second lowest margin on the week was on for the ages with the lead switching 3 different times during the week. GM Matt’s squad started off well on the week with RB Mixon and QB Josh Allen bringing valuable points to the table, but as the dust settled in the early Sunday games, an absolutely ridiculous performance by Belichick Yo Self’s Kyler Murray with 42 points seemed like it might launch the team to victory. Late afternoon scores by RB’s Kamario and Melvin Gordon looked to seal the deal for GM David, but GM Matt’s team had other plans. With Stafford dawning the new uniform in LA for the first time, an avalanche of points were put on the board by his breakfast pal Cooper Kupp as he peppered the WR with enough targets to scramble GM David’s eggs and hope for a win. GM David will look to build on his performance in his narrow defeat with what could be another nail biter against GM Michael’s Romanian RAPOs.

As week 2 begins tonight, we enter our first Rivalry Week. This is a week where the drive to win is highest and a loss hurts just a little bit more, especially if it’s to Kelly. Our Wildcat Matchup of the Week is a fascinating one between GM Michael and the Romanian RAPOs (0-1) and GM David and his team Belichick Yo Self (0-1). Both managers fell to their opponents in their first matchups despite having well built rosters. Will GM Pasca get a bounceback performance from RB1 Aaron Jones who got absolutely hosed last week by a total bummy and hipster version of Aaron Rodgers? Will the Dak-Ceedee connection stay hot? Can GM David get another incredible performance by Kyler Murray? Will AJ Brown return the dominant form we saw him in last year?  We’ll have to wait and see.

That’s it for our wrap up fellas. Sorry if it wasn’t as good as when our commissioner has written it and thank you for making it all the way here. If you did, I owe you a beer. Good luck to you all (except you Connor) as we head into what should be another fun week of fantasy!
